How do you avoid reaching your maximum offer when buying a property?
One thing I’ve noticed in property negotiations is that buyers often reveal too much, too early.
You might know your absolute maximum, but there’s really no reason for the seller or agent to know what that number is.
Instead of immediately putting your strongest offer forward, hold something back and use the negotiation to gather information.
Where does the seller actually stand?
How motivated are they?
Are there other genuine buyers?
What would make them move?
The idea is to find their bottom line before you reveal yours.
Then, rather than negotiating emotionally or simply increasing your offer every time they push back, you can work out your next move based on what you’ve learned.
Done properly, the goal isn't just to buy the property.
It's to buy it without needing to spend your absolute maximum.
Curious how others approach this — do you give your best offer early, or keep something in reserve?
