I want to be done!

My MIL takes a lot of work, we spend a lot of time helping her because she’s like a 17 year old going on 65. Quick background second husband died 2 years ago, left her in a house that’s not habitable we’ve spent 6 months selling old cars, RVs, Harley’s etc to make her 40k she promised she wouldn’t spend it on anything crazy… two weeks later she spent more than half on a new car. She bought a designer dog, who is a nightmare, terrorises everyone and my husbands service dog. Somehow we keep entertaining her as my husband wants to try have a relationship as she is alone (she abandoned him twice, first one 6 months after his dad died).

Fast forward to this week we conveniently were too busy to make it over. In conversation with her sweet neighbour who rescued and introduced us to my husbands now service dog, we were talking about another rescue she is working with to get ready for adoption to which the MIL states «  that’s why I got a Yorkiepoo I never wanted a rescue dog they’re used and second hand ». We were all stunned and over a day later I am still disgusted, my husband is embarrassed that he’s related to her, he grew up with rescues, as did I and his service dog and literal life line is a rescue. We left shortly after and I think this is the thing that has broken the camels back for me I don’t want to be around someone so rude and that has such an opinion on poor animals that need help.
I’m aware not everyone is an animal lover but my husband and I are and his service dog who’s a rescue has literally changed our lives.
