How creator payouts work on the Bedrock marketplace I built — no platform balance, Stripe pays you directly

I posted about Bedrock Bazaar here recently. A few people asked how the money side works, so here it is properly.

The splits: creators keep 85% of a paid sale, 95% of a donation, and 90% of a subscription. Free downloads have no cut at all — if you publish free content the platform takes nothing, ever.

The part I think matters more than the percentage: payments run through Stripe Connect as destination charges. When someone buys your pack, your share transfers straight into your own Stripe account. There is no platform balance holding your earnings, no minimum threshold to reach, and no payout button to press, because there's nothing to release — the money was never mine to hold.

That also means I can't quietly sit on creator funds, which is the failure mode I've seen sink other small platforms.

A few smaller decisions that follow from the same idea:

  • The platform fee is rounded down on every transaction, so the odd cent goes to the creator rather than to me.
  • Raising your subscription price never re-bills existing subscribers.
  • A refund automatically revokes the buyer's download access, so you aren't chasing anything.
  • You can't buy, tip or subscribe to yourself — blocked outright, so nobody can fake their own numbers.

Being straight: it's early, and no payment has completed on the platform yet. The plumbing is built and tested but it hasn't been exercised by real customers, so I'm describing how it works rather than how it's gone.

Happy to answer anything about the mechanics, including the parts that aren't finished.
