Plot inconsistency in Kiwami 2?

I just noticed this: immediately after Date visits Kazuki at Stardust and chases after him at the beginning of Chapter 6, Kiryu can find Date talking to an Internet Modem salesman on Nakamichi street which starts a new substory, "Welcome to the Modern Age."

Is this a plot inconsistency? Or is Date as easily distracted by substories as Kiryu is?
