In the 2025/2026 season, FPL introdced Def Con points and not only did it make the defenders get bonus points for defending but also midfielders and some of the most underlooked options, since forever, have been the defensive midfielders. I've been doing a Defensive Contribution prediction proyect on the side and even though the defensive midfielders have recieved a boost in their points, its simply not enough to make them viable options, or simply interesting enough for people to use up one of their slots in midfield (which in my opinion is the most high reward position) for only a +2 in their points, which for actually not offensive DM's would give a ceiling of 5 points. Pairing this with some of the more offensive midfielders also recieving DefCon points (only saying this because of how good Bruno Fernandes did on DefCons), I feel like the role is still being underappreciated in the game. I admit that it makes sense the lack of interest as it is the most "boring" position, in the sense of excitement and cruciality when making or recieving goals, I also know that they are definetly one of the most important positions for a team to actually play well and control the game.

So I give this question up for this sub to discuss: Is there any need to improve the game so that it gives more importance to defensive midfielders, by giving them more points or something else? Or is there actually no interest by anyone on wanting to use them in the game?

Is there any Interest In Choosing Defensive Midfielders?
