Ex dropping my healthcare insurance
My spouse and I decided to separate a few months ago. We organized a time to talk deeply about it yesterday, and I told her that I wanted to go through legal mediation and develop the best way to achieve independence and become great co-parents to our 4 year old son.
She said that if I go ahead and seek mediation that she would drop my healthcare coverage on October 1. I feel like that's such a power play, using my vulnerability as a bipolar patient against me to threaten me against getting legal representation.
I was in the hospital three times in the last two years. I had horrible psychosis in the inpatient ward, pain that I wouldn't wish on any one else. I tried to hang myself in the ward but luckily they caught me in the act. I read the hospital bill after my stay: $286,000. Luckily we had great insurance through the feds and only had to pay $700. I'm just so freaked out that I'm going to go through that again and be uninsured. I know it's probably against the law to drop me from coverage, but the betrayal feels real.
