Is anyone else actually okay with this twist?
Don’t get me wrong, I definitely think that given how much they played it up it’s very underwhelming, plus it feels heavily White Locust-coded. But now that we know how the twist works I actually feel okay with it.
The reason most of us hated the White Locust last year was because even though there were social dynamics at play the person who got eliminated heavily depended on who lost a competition. In this twist, there are four competitions, but they’re pretty much for safety and power, something the houseguests always play for on a weekly basis. There’s a lot of strategy as to who should play first and who should be saved until last, and unlike the White Locust this strategy can’t simply be undone because someone is bad at a particular comp.
Then, I think it was a good decision to make it so that the winner of the last comp gets to pick who goes home rather than the loser of the last comp being eliminated on the spot.
I’m just saying that I feel like social dynamics and strategy play a much bigger part in who gets eliminated from this twist than the actual comps do, and that’s why I feel okay with it. This is what the White Locust should have been. The houseguests have the chance to compete for their safety but ultimately the person who goes home is still determined by some kind of social factor. If they’re going to bring back these kind of surprise elimination events on a regular basis then I’d say this is the proper way to do it.
