The Great Cricket Siege.
It started two nights ago around 1:00 AM, when a lone cricket decided to perform a continuous, hour-and-a-half solo right outside my room. Heavy from my sleep medication, I couldn't do much about it and eventually passed out, only for the same bug to wake me again at 6:30 AM. Naturally, as soon as I got up to hunt it down, it went silent.
The following night, the real nightmare began. I took my medication at 8:30 PM, expecting a quiet night. Instead, at 9:30 PM, "Jiminy Cricket" returned for an encore—this time sound-amplified to an unbearable volume. He chirped without a single second of silence for five straight hours.
At 2:30 AM, I snapped. Armed with a spray bottle, I crept toward the front door and caught him hiding in a corner near the entryway. One quick spray, and the menace was gone. Silence restored. Victory was mine.
Or so I thought.
The moment I sat back down to sleep, an entire orchestra erupted. It turns out Jiminy was just the frontman for a five-piece band strategically placed around my bedroom. For the next several hours, I moved around like a crazed hunter, armed only with a spray bottle and paper towels. Every time I silenced one section of the orchestra, another cricket would strike up a solo on the other side of the house.
By the time the final offenders were officially canceled, it was 8:00 AM and the sun was fully up. Between the bright daylight and the sheer adrenaline rush of tactical pest control, there was absolutely no way I was getting back to sleep.
