Why is everyone on reddit so miserable/mean?

I know i'm generalizing here but the general pessimistic attitude that everyone has on here is very off putting.

Are normal people like this? Looking at the negative in everything? Being extremely negative in ever faucet of life?

I do understand misery loves company, but most people IRL I know don't seem this miserable.

For example just how hostile men and women are to each other on this app. I can't even begin to just see how much generalizations/pure hatred there is on subs like r/askmen and r/AskWomen

I feel like most people IRL I know don't directly hate the opposite sex, but what do I know?

Whats going on? I also wonder if its because there are bots everywhere on this website now.
