First timer and overwhelmed (electric glass top stove)
Help! I’m wanting to do water bath canning and pressure canning but so incredibly overwhelmed trying to figure out what’s safe / not going to crack my ceramic cooktop electric stove.
The detailed manual for my range doesn’t say anything about a weight limit for the stove top. It does have a section about canning and it says:
• Use only a completely flat bottom canner with no ridges that radiate from the bottom center when home canning. Heat is spread more evenly when the bottom surface is flat. Use a straight-edge to check canner bottom.
• Make sure the diameter of the canner does not exceed 1 inch beyond the surface element markings or burner.
• It is recommended to use smaller diameter canners on electric coil and ceramic glass cooktops and to center canners on the burner grates.
The largest burner is 11.5” diameter. I’m having a hard time finding a pressure canner that is smaller than that. And from details in the manual it says not to use anything larger than 12-13” diameter.
I’m really interested in pressure canning bc want to do vegetables. Really do not want to break my stove obviously lol. Is a separate electric or coil burner necessary bc plugging that in on the counter also stresses me tfo. Lastly, really not wanting to go the propane route. HALP.
