[CFYOW/anime Spoilers] Do you think the Soul King's origin is actually changed in the anime?

SpoilerAnime

A tagged spoiler briefly mentions an element from the last ep, but this post isn't about it otherwise, big spoilers for CFYOW though:

While the manga never touches on it, the last light novel(s) and the anime seem to clash dramatically on how the Soul King's origins are shown as well as a bit with the manga as far as Yhwach's origins are.

The anime shows the SK dividing the primordial sea (only shown as a sea in the anime) himself and falling to pieces in the process, only for his pieces to be gathered by the Monk. We also see a young Yhwach stood in the sea crying at this.

The light novels have him willingly 'betrayed' by the shinigami and cut into pieces by the noble houses, who apart from the shiba feared his power even trapped in crystal. His division then also results in his 'nails' falling to the other realms to create empowered individuals. That explains both how Fullbringers came into being (the nails' power attracted the hollows to the mothers of them) and what actually was done to Rangiku when Aizen was harvesting what appeared to be souls/energy for the hogyoku (actually 'nails').

However, is the anime version the 'truth' in the form of a memory, or merely what the Monk showed Ichigo?

The manga shows Yhwach's origins, as a creepy magic baby born hundreds of thousands of years after the creation of the world in either soul society or the world of the living. So he could never have stepped foot in the primordial sea (and there's no mention of a reincarnation), so unless the anime is drastically changing the circumstances of his birth that scene would need to be a non-literal representation of his feelings towards his "father".

Furthermore, I think it's fairly clearly laid out the moment the idea of the Soul King's dismemberment was brought up that Nanao's soul-sucking god-splitting sword was what was used to divide up the soul king (if not also used to divide the worlds themselves). The novels introduce the idea of the soul king being split, but the manga itself shows us a god-splitting tool even if it never explains the Soul King's lack of limbs.

About the closest the anime gets to really confirming these visions is >!the appearance of water from the primordial sea!<. While the primordial sea isn't mentioned in the manga, you could make the inference that the 'dimensional distortion' not-liquid Kisuke is having the vizard vaccum up is made of the same stuff too (maybe someone's asked him this on Klub?). Perhaps the nature of dimensions breaking down causes reality to revert to that prior state. However the sea being real doesn't mean the circumstances of the Soul King's creation have to be also be true.

So there's a clear divide between the manga and the light-novels (which aren't written by Kubo, but he does collaborate on the lore to my knowledge), and a small divide between the manga and anime as far as when Yhwach was alive and whether he had met his father.

Unless of course we're (through Ichigo's vision) not being shown what actually occured, and the novels actually *are* canon in this regard. It'd be a cool twist to have Yhwach show the literal events to Ichigo to show the Soul King's betrayal, and perhaps have the Royal Guard eventually offer the counter argument that even if the Soul King was forcibly divided up, he still would have seen it coming and done it anyway (as the light novel has happen).

So does everyone think this is just a creative difference, or will we find out that what Ichigo's been shown about the origins of the world might be biased towards the Monk's point of view (of willing participation) rather than the truth?

I'd genuinely love to see if I'm not alone in viewing the 'flashback' scenes as non-literal visions made to make the shinigami look guiltless, or if you think I should just be taking the scenes as they're actually shown and ignoring some novel not even written by Kubo.
