I would appreciate help as soon as possible

Hello I'm having trouble with my Xbox one it won't stay on it's been in my room and honestly hasn't been played in a while but today I got a game in a last minute gift from my brother in law but when I try to turn on my console it briefly turns one and 1 second layer it turns off, now this Xbox has always had trouble but this is the first time it won't stay on. Help I would like to know if there's something I can do I don't want my brother in law to waste his time with me. Please tell me if there's something I can do before I tell him to refund the game and to forget about it
