my cockatiel is molting rn and i like to help her preen new feathers around her beak/crest/head as they're coming in. i'm very familiar with the rule of not touching them anywhere else as this can trigger hormonal issues/behaviors, so i never do that. however, im confident in using "she" pronouns for her because she frequently displays female hormonal patterns- she'll often squat near me and get into her "please mount me" position + horny chirps that im sure we as a subreddit are all too familiar with

when this happens i move her or spray her with water, she usually either stops or does it a couple more times before getting the memo. we try to give her adequate uninterrupted sleep 10-12 hours a day, she doesn't have any toys or things in her cage that could cause that sort of behavior (mirrors, nests, etc) and we kick her out of any sort of nook or corner that she tries to nest/becomes territorial over. but she still does her mounting thing, and only with me, not my roommate. i tend to give her more scritches than my roommate does but other than that she receives appropriate attention from both of us, and yet has not stopped engaging in mating behavior towards me. is there anything i should do?

tiel tax included! she loves her scritches, which is why i hope were able to continue giving them to her

should i stop scritching/preening my bird?
