I’ve been producing for a while, but this is a style I’ve never really been able to figure out. I attached a few examples because I don’t know what to call it or what I would even search to learn it.

I’m specifically talking about the melodic side of these tracks. I don’t care about recreating the drums or bass.

I’m trying to understand how people actually approach making these kinds of melodies from the beginning. Like:

What kind of chords/voicings are being used?

Are these usually written as normal chord progressions first, or are they built more from individual notes/layers?

What makes the melodies feel so loose and almost like they don’t follow a normal structure?

How are they getting that washed out, detuned, warped kind of sound without it just sounding like a normal melody with effects thrown on it?

Is a lot of this resampling/granular processing, or is the sound mostly coming from the original synth/sample?

What kinds of sounds would you even start with to make something like this?

Are there certain scales, intervals, or ways of writing harmony that are common in this style?

How do they get all the different melodic sounds to feel like one texture instead of a bunch of instruments layered together?

Is there an actual name for this style of melody/production that I could search for?

I’m not really looking for a specific plugin that will instantly make it sound like this. I’m more interested in understanding the actual process and learning how to write/produce this way myself.

If anyone makes music like this or knows producers/tutorials that break down this kind of melodic production, I’d appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

How do I actually learn to make melodies like these?
