# A well-bred American Bully should be confident, affectionate, people-oriented and stable — not nervy, chaotic or unpredictably aggressive.

The biggest mistake people make is blaming or crediting the breed label for everything. Temperament is shaped by:

genetics

* breeder selection
* early socialization
* training
* health
* environment
* owner management

For buyers, the better question is not simply **“Are American Bullies aggressive?”**

It is:

**“What kind of temperament is this breeder actually producing?”**

Look at the adult dogs. Ask how they behave around guests, children, other dogs, grooming, travel and unfamiliar environments.

A quality **Pocket Bully** should have presence without instability and confidence without unnecessary reactivity.

Training matters too. Calm greetings, leash manners, crate training, impulse control and teaching the dog to settle are just as important as basic obedience.

One of the most overlooked factors is bloodline history. Modern Pocket Bullies trace through influential families including [Gottiline](https://bully-king-magazine.myshopify.com/blogs/news/the-history-of-ed-shepherd-daxline)**,** [Remyline](https://bully-king-magazine.myshopify.com/blogs/news/the-history-of-lowjack-remy-martin-remyline) **and** [Daxline](https://bully-king-magazine.myshopify.com/blogs/news/the-history-of-ed-shepherd-daxline), but a famous pedigree name should never replace evaluating the actual dogs being produced.

The bottom line:

**Don’t judge an American Bully solely by the bloodline name, color, head size or Instagram photos. Judge the temperament, health, structure and consistency of what the breeder actually produces.**
