Discussing our honeymoon: AITAH (F33 M28)
My fiancé has trauma about water - she lived through some serious floods in Louisiana and once stepped on a body, dislodging it and causing it to float up right beside her. That would probably fuck me up, too. I get the trauma.
I went to Disney California when I was a young teen, when my depression first started manifesting. It was miserable, and I’m not a Disney fan to begin with so I have no interest in going to Disney or Universal for our honeymoon.
I want to go scuba diving on our honeymoon - she’s willing to. She was once very okay with that, and assured me that she would move past her traumatic past to experience my bucket list.
Once my grandma offered to pay for us to go to Disney, she changed her tune. Suddenly I’m the asshole for not being excited to go to a theme park when natural phenomena are my life and interests.
To be fair, my grandmother can’t travel so going to Florida would be the only way for them to meet - I would just rather go to the coast and see some karst caves or scuba diving on the coast instead of visiting a theme park.
Idk how to let my grandma know that I prefer a natural experience vs a theme park, and very well may be an asshole for feeling bad about asking for that if we even go to Florida, when our original plan was to go to south texas or even Alaska with other family members. to do something natural.
Should I suck it up and go to Disney or universal, or should we continue talking about it and come up with an idea that we are both just as excited about?
