How to approach guys for a hook up without coming on too strong?

I’m a woman, what’s your best advice for approaching a man I find attractive out in a bar and trying to see if he’s interested in making out/hooking up.

I have done it a few times and I often feel like I’m coming on too strong, and especially if they are with friends they usually seem uninterested or go back to their friends after a few minutes.

Is there an approach that would work well on men to lead to a bar makeout? Are there specific things I shouldn’t do?

To give context, I am cute, petite, and I usually go up to guys and ask their name, what area they live in, and sometimes I tell them I think they’re cute.

Also, I’m not always approaching people that are out of my league. A lot of times I am approaching short guys, or guys that I KNOW don’t get approached often, so it’s not just that.
