Luca is not here to heal Lara’s trauma
I always come across people who say that Luca, who looks like Nikolai but is very opposite of him, is here to help Lara get over her trauma from what happened between them in the past.
I think it’s too simplistic because we know trauma and healing don’t work that way. Lara’s trauma is way deeper than being rejected by one prince, there’s also the fact that Rowan instilled in her how humans loathe the merfolk. You can’t get over a fear that great by 1 person saying they find you beautiful no matter who you are and bonus, he looks like the person you loved from the past. It’s kinda unhealthy to look at it like that I think. Even Lara knows that when said that she knows Luca is not the prince from her past. I think this kind of trauma will only be overcome by a great amount of acceptance of her real self by a lot of people, the Otsus, Himeka etc.
On that note, I think Luca’s role is more to challenge her view about love. About how you can’t rush it and how everything can look perfect on paper but still, your heart won’t be moved by it.
