What's the worst piece of advice you've ever actually taken—and what happened after?
I'll go first: "Just be yourself."
Sounds great, right? I took it to heart. Went into a job interview being my full, authentic, unfiltered self. Made a joke about my last boss. Told them I hated early mornings. Said I wasn't really a "team player" type.
I did not get the job.
Turns out "be yourself" only works if "yourself" happens to be exactly what they're looking for. If not, you're just handing them reasons to say no. Now I'm not saying you should fake your entire personality—but maybe read the room first.
So what's a piece of advice you followed that blew up in your face?
