Against all odds, I’m finally employed!
Yay! I graduated last July with a BS degree since I really thought I would either get into law or medical school but life happened and I rediscovered my love for writing. I spent all of my undergrad years in my university’s student newspaper and at first, I didn’t think much about it as a career leverage thing because I really do just love writing. When the thoughts about working in a different industry from my BS degree started popping up in my head, I hesitated a lot kasi I genuinely believed in the phrase “never make your passion your job, you’ll end up hating it.”
But somewhere along the way, I ended up getting several executive positions in the newspaper to eventually become Editor-in-Chief. And I decided to take a stab in the dark, take my chances kumbaga.
So while every one of my friends were getting ready for the August PLE, I was naively applying to media jobs with no other experience than those four years in a student newspaper.
And somehow, against all odds, I landed a job as Editor-in-Chief of a major international entertainment publication. I’m still on probation for three months so my salary’s only 93k at the moment but it’s my dream job (well, aside from the fact na remote siya because i love a cozy office environment but in this economy? this opportunity is like striking gold.)
I still have a lot of impostor syndrome moments because I keep thinking I’ll end up failing the brand considering I’m basically the boss of 20+ people but I only graduated two months ago. But fake it ‘till you make it, right? Despite it all, I know I’ll succeed because I love what I do. Anything done with love will reciprocate.
Employment dust for you too, it’s the least we deserve 🧿✨
