Getting to Bajos del Toro

I know there have already been a few posts about this, but I’ll be driving to Bajos Del Toro from San Jose Airport this weekend and would love any updated advice on the best route to take. I’ve been reading so many things saying that the route to get there is extremely treacherous and I’ve been anxious about it since booking our accommodation there. Can anyone suggest the best route to get there that is less sketchy, even if it adds a bit more time? Or can you provide any insight on the typical route, and would you advise that I avoid it?
