On Guns:
I've seen a lot of "gun = bad" sentiments in the community for as long as I've been playing, and sure, during Build 41 I could see it. But when B42's gun rework dropped, with it came new mechanics that absolutely made them much more worthwhile.
Something I've seen some people not really understand about the rework since it dropped is that you *do* need to aim your cursor at the Z's heads for it to be effective. The number of youtubers I saw not really getting that when it dropped was admittedly surprising, so I wondered how many others are aware of it. So get in the habit! They didn't add a crosshair reticle for nothing, its not just for show! Make sure you're following Rule 2 of Zombieland, and double tap if they're on the ground and still squirming. In fact, that's normally a free headshot. You'll notice the reticle tighten up a *lot* when its a sure shot.
The other mechanic added that I learned during last year's Build 42 which has stayed consistent, was that if you fire a gun *indoors* the sound is *heavily dampened.* This means you can typically pop off inside of a house when needed, but this will change dynamically depending on the number of windows and doors are open/destroyed. The sound will escape through the openings in that direction- so be mindful. Of course this will rile up any Z's present in the building, so they'll start broadcasting their position pounding on doors and such. Good for clearing the building once the dust settles. Best practice is to let any from outside in through one entrance to shoot at them, creating what's known in the business as a "Fatal Funnel" and have an escape route planned through the rear or side of the building you're working through.
Lastly, if you want to conserve ammo, let them fall over fences/windows! This creates not only a buffer for you to shoulder/ready your weapon, but also gives you free kills. I've cleared entire sections of towns doing this method, and it really makes efficient use of ammo.
Wanted to write this explanation because I have felt somewhat alone in my knowledge of these things and felt it was worth raising awareness. Even if you knew already, well, the new players will benefit!
Give it a *shot* sometime! Eh? Eh?? I'll see myself out...
