I am transgender, and for those who do not know, Idaho has been slowly moving up higher and higher on the DO NOT TRAVEL transgender website. With my lease over in New York, my only option would be to go back there so my parents could support me. I would be unable to go out in public or work due to being outed, attacked, or possibly arrested trying to use a bathroom.
When I moved to Canada, I did so with my spouse driving and a car full of stuff and my cats. The border guard asked us our relation, then asked me where I called home, if I had a lease I was paying (at the time, yes), if I had a job that I was able to return to (still do), and how long I intended to stay (till Dec 31st). We were then sent inside, where they looked at our regular border crossing history, the New York Marriage Certificate, and my Passport that has a clear X marker on it, and was told "Welcome to Canada." It took 5 minutes.
I crossed the Peace Bridge.
My lease ended due to the fact I was mentally struggling/needed family support and my landlord allowed a lease dismissal.
If they ask me to leave the country, legally, then by all legal reasons I have no choice to comply, but I would like to have a strong argument to not leave before they ask that of me.
I am asking those who are transgender or have other similar experiences if I should apply for emergency PR, or if I should just wait it out under a normal family sponsorship Inland Application?
