Im currently going into my second year at UCD as an undergrad and soon will have to juggle my two jobs and a research lab. Im terrified of what looks good and doesn’t on my future vet school apps.

My current gpa is 3.3 which I know is kinda buns, but Ive been trying hard to improve my study skills and such. My main question is how do I balance all of that? I feel like I have to drop one of my opportunities to be able to raise my gpa, but all have their pros and cons and benefits me a lot. I work at clinic which is willing to teach me everything, in the 1 month Ive worked there so far they’ve taught me to draw blood, place catheters and IVs, inject vaccines, and all that fun stuff. My other job is Vetco, I work at the vaccine clinic and it helps me rack up my hours quickly since I work 12 hour shifts once to twice a week. Not to mention the really good discount I get at Petco for it to provide for my dog. My research lab is basically an optometry lab on primates, dogs, mice, and bunnies. I think it is as well called COVSL lab and is linked with the UCD vet school. They required 10 volunteer hours a week.

I am more leaning towards quitting my lab, but I know it would be very good on my apps in the future since its research animal hours. My other question would be then is, would it be better for me to be in a lab and get research animal hours or to instead work with other types of animals during the summer? I heard that its best to get a variety of animal/vet hours and it helps to stand out, similar to lab hours. So far I have around 80 hours of working with wildlife through an internship as well.

Above is what my schedule would look like during the upcoming school year. I really don’t want to overwhelm myself and become burnt out. Please let me know what would be best looking on my applications for vet school and which I should drop or if it would be better to just push through and try!

What will benefit me for my apps more in the longrun
