What do I do??
Confused …
I feel completely burnt out by the grind here. Dealing with skyrocketing rents in major cities, low entry/mid-level compensation compared to global standards, and exhausting daily logistics makes it hard to see a sustainable long-term future in India. Remote roles are fiercely competitive, so I feel cornered between two very different paths:
Option 1: Switch to a job closer to my hometown.
** **Pros: I am physically close to my aging parents to support and care for them directly.
** **Cons: Staying in the same cycle of stressful city infrastructure, comparatively stagnant wages, and high living expenses.
Option 2: Take an education loan and move abroad for higher studies.
** **Pros: Access to better work culture, stronger purchasing power, and a higher standard of living. Long-term, I could either save enough to build a home back in my native place or eventually figure out a way to sponsor/bring my parents over.
** **Cons: Heavy student debt, unpredictable post-study visa/job markets, and the emotional/logistical guilt of leaving my parents behind with limited support.
I see peers who moved abroad living well, but many have alternative family support systems back home that I don't necessarily have.
For those who chose to stay or leave under similar family obligations: How did you evaluate the financial risk of going abroad versus the emotional toll of staying? What practical compromises worked for you?
