My first experience dating a Capricorn. What did I do wrong for her to leave?
I (39M, Aries) met a woman (34F, Capricorn) on a dating app. We hit it off right away over text. Our first call lasted 3 hours. Our first date lasted 7 hours. She told me she really liked my nose (quite a unique compliment to get) and that our first date was perfect.
She was always busy with work, dance classes, or being unwell. I was extremely patient with her and implicitly accommodated her schedule without pressuring her to meet more often. Our second date happened a month after the first, and lasted 8 hours again. In her own words, she said the day had become one big, beautiful memory for her.
Our 3rd date (not really a date) was a dance show she invited me to, a month after our second date. After her show, we met briefly near the stage, and she asked if I wanted to join her and her troupe (about 40 people) for dinner. I told her we could catch up later, and that she should enjoy the time with her troupe after all their hard work. The next day, she told me how great it felt to see me in the audience, and that it made her go the extra mile. She said it made her feel like I was fam.
Our 4th date happened 20 days later. We rented a car and went for a drive, 8 hours together again. Up until I suggested renting a car and going on a trip, she seemed chirpy, happy, and herself. The moment we finalized the plan, I noticed a shift in her energy. She never said anything outright, and she still took interest in planning the logistics, but I could sense something had changed. We rented the car because neither of us owns one in this city. Neither of us had driven in a while, so I was a bit anxious. The night before, I told her I was nervous about driving but that we'd manage.
On the day of the drive, I picked her up from her dance class, and we spent 8 hours together, joking, driving, having fun. When it was time to drop her home, she suggested we get dinner. I gave her a small gift (not costly, but tied to one of our inside jokes) and she loved it. When I dropped her home and went in for a hug, she didn't fully reciprocate, so it ended up being a side hug. Her last words to me that day were, "We should definitely do this more often."
After I got home that night, I returned the rental car, and the agency found a few scratches on the bumper that weren't there before. The rental terms required me to pay for damages, and since it was late and I just wanted to get home, I paid them off. She texted to check if I'd made it home, and I told her right away about the damage charge. She was furious and said I should complain to the booking portal. I was tired and told her most rental agencies in the city operate the same way, and there wasn't much point pushing back. She just replied "ok." Nothing about how good the date was, unlike the previous times.
The next day, no text from her. I messaged her that evening, and she said she was completely drained from work. I tried to offer some support, but she wasn't very responsive. I didn't text her for the next 3 days, assuming she needed space. When I finally reached out, she didn't reply. Five days after that, I messaged again, asking if she was still interested in exploring this, and she said she didn't feel the connection she needed for it to move forward romantically.
I'm left wondering what I did wrong? She seemed so present, showing every sign of being into me, extending dates that she could have easily cut short. Does a Cap ever come back around after a decision like this, or is this final?
