Would you genuinely consider marrying a man who becomes a house husband?
I’m 30M, and I’m seriously thinking about an unconventional life path, so I’d appreciate honest opinions from women rather than reassurance.
I have a B.Tech, an MS, around 3 years of US work experience, and an H-1B background.
The problem is that I’ve been unemployed for a prolonged period despite repeatedly trying to get back into the workforce. It’s been difficult enough that I’m now questioning whether I should continue making employment the central measure of my life.
One possibility I’m seriously considering is becoming a house husband.
By that I mean that if I married a woman who was willing and able to be the primary earner, I would take responsibility for the household — cooking, cleaning, errands, managing the home, supporting my wife, etc. I wouldn’t see this as “doing nothing.” I’d want to contribute meaningfully to the relationship even if my wife earned most or all of the money.
I also have an H-1B history and could potentially move to H-4 status if I eventually married someone in the US, so I’m considering this from both a relationship and practical perspective.
I’m not looking for someone to rescue me financially. I’m trying to understand whether this kind of relationship is genuinely acceptable to women today.
For women here:
- Would you consider marrying a man who is a house husband if you earned enough to support the household?
- Would his previous education and professional experience make a difference to you?
- Would you expect him to continue trying to build a career, or would you be comfortable with him primarily managing the home?
- What would you expect him to contribute besides money?
- Would you personally find this arrangement attractive, neutral, or a dealbreaker?
- What would make you trust that he genuinely wants to be a homemaker rather than simply being unemployed?
Please be honest, including if your answer is an unequivocal “no.” I’m trying to understand the reality of how women perceive this arrangement, not receive sympathy.
