I recently decided to go through my childhood Lego collection, because it was all over the house, some sets were broken, pieces were missing, and parts from the same set ended up in different boxes, etc. I have always felt bad for my legos so over the summer I finally committed myself to organize and make sure all pieces from each set were present.

I started with finding the manuals and checking off every piece with a pen as I found it. That got boring and inefficient very quickly, so I decided to make a web app to help me.

The app shows all the pieces from a set, and I can mark how many of each one I’ve found while sorting through my collection. Once I’m done checking a set, it keeps track of which pieces are still missing.

Over the next week or so I refined the app for my specific workflow. There is now a clear list of all missing pieces, a way to identify loose minifigures from a photo, a progress dashboard, filters, QoL...

The set and part information comes from Rebrickable, and the photo identification uses Brickognize.

I didn't manage to finish sorting my whole collection but it was really satisfying completing my old sets and knowing that most of the pieces are present and accounted for.

I’ve now put the project on GitHub in case anyone else is dealing with a similar mess. It’s free and open source, although you do need to run it yourself using Docker.

I hope you guys find this useful and I'm open to any feedback and improvements.
