Yowling at Open Door
My orange cat is 6 years old. Over the last year or so he's developed this new habit of standing outside my open bedroom door and just yowling non-stop. If I walk out there he looks at me and yowls again. He doesn't want to be held or petted. If I try to pet he will swipe at me or bite. He has never been a lap cat and generally doesn't like to be petted. He follows me around and just wants to be near me and the kids and will purr and make biscuits, but touching is on his terms. He was a bottle fed baby so no abuse in his background. He has a full bowl of food and water. Gets treats every night and wet food in the morning. I play with him before I go to bed to get him a good exercise. The door is always open and he's allowed to sleep in our bed or wherever he wants. He's constantly waking me up and now it's waking up my son in the middle of the night too. It's driving us crazy. He'll eventually stop, but the second that he perceives someone is awake in the morning he starts again and won't stop until I physically get out of bed. I thought in the morning it was because he wanted his wet food and I'll get up and give it to him, but he takes a few bites and then goes back to his spot and starts up again. The vet said he is in perfect health and had no suggestions other than to get a second cat which is not an option. We've thought about locking him in the laundry room overnight with his litter box, but I can't stomach him crying in there all night alone cause I do love the annoying little bugger. Is this an orange cat thing? How do I make it stop? He's currently sleeping in his bed in my office acting like he's not the reason I'm so tired.
