Months of great travel photos never posted — how would you make the best of the situation now?

I have a slightly annoying problem with my travel photos and videos, and I’d really like to know how you would handle it in my situation.

I love traveling and I take a lot of photos and videos while I’m away. I also put quite a bit of effort into them: good locations, different angles, photos of myself, landscapes, food, sights, little everyday moments, and so on.

And the frustrating part is that a lot of the content is genuinely really good.

The problem is that I never properly posted most of it on Instagram.

My original plan was always to post Stories while I was actually traveling and then save them into a Highlight for each country or trip.

So in my ideal world it would have been:

Have a great day → choose the best photos and clips that evening → post a few Stories → later save them to the country Highlight.

That way, the Highlight would basically be a chronological little travel diary, and everything would have been posted at the actual time I was there.

Unfortunately, I kept putting it off.

“I’ll do it tonight.”

“I’ll do it tomorrow.”

“I’ll sort it out after the trip.”

And now, in some cases, months have passed.

That really bothers me because it feels like such a waste. I have hundreds of genuinely nice photos and videos from trips that I put a lot of effort into, and now they’re just sitting in my camera roll without ever having made it onto Instagram.

Honestly, I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and tell myself:

“Just post a few Stories every evening and stop overthinking it.”

Then I’d already have nice, chronological Highlights for all my trips, with everything feeling like it actually belonged to that moment.

But obviously, no time machine. :D

So my actual question is:

How would you make the best of this situation now?

Would you still post old trips to your Story months later?

Maybe with something like “throwback,” “travel dump,” or “finally posting these photos from…”?

Would you turn them into regular feed posts or carousels instead?

Would you upload the old Stories now, add them to Highlights, and then remove them from the public Story?

Would you only choose the absolute best photos from each trip now, or would you still try to recreate the trip somewhat chronologically?

And how would you deal with the fact that the Stories would obviously show today’s date rather than the date when the trip actually happened?

That’s probably the part that bothers me most.

I’d love for someone to be able to click through a country Highlight later and have it feel like a proper chronological travel diary, rather than something I awkwardly put together six months later.

Maybe I’m overthinking that part too much.

But I’m less interested in whether Instagram “matters too much” and more in the practical question:

I now have a huge backlog of really good travel content from several past trips. What is the nicest and most natural way to finally get it onto Instagram without it feeling weird or outdated?

If anyone has ever had a similar travel-content backlog, how did you handle it?
