My ex wants to meet after he broke up with me

A week ago today my ex broke it off with me, he claims "life got in the way" and that he still loves me, I was his first boyfriend at 26.

I left our flat and have been at my parent's since, except for moving my belongings out the flat we shared. I told him to not contact me besides flat-related things, but days later he told me that he wrote me a letter that he left at the flat.

He essentially apologised for things I was wanting to hear during the relationship & confessed that his dynamic with work and the people he worked with became toxic. He also mentioned that he'd look for other work. In return, I also wrote him a letter where I admitted to what I felt I had done wrong in the relationship (his main problem with me is that I'd share personal aspects of my life, even if it didn't have to do with him) my guess is that he was worried about how that would reflect on him. He mentioned that he "also has been through things" and that I should leave my problems in the past. There was also a plethora of work drama that I got dragged into, even to the point where some of the 19/20 year olds he was working with would spread rumors about me saying that I "prefered hanging out with X/Y/Z rather than X/Y/Z".

After this, we talked for a couple days about non-flat things - but the conversations weren't very long as I still told him I think it's best we still limit contact. He admitted to me that he's keeping a gem-stone we got during our anniversary in his wallet as a reminder of our time together & as a way to show me that he'll be there for me if I need it.

Then, last friday he mentioned that he hopes in a month or two that we could meet at a cafe and get "closure".

Then the next day, it turned into him thinking we should meet at the very same bar we went to on our first date and "speak".

Since talking on Saturday morning last week, we haven't talked once.

I genuinely just don't know what to think of it all. He's broke my heart and it just feels like his social & work life came before fixing our relationship when until the very end I was trying to communicate, but he'd keep shutting me off. I don't understand why he'd want to see me again.
