Why do some Malayalis abroad try to gatekeep new immigrants?

I have a distant relative who has been living in Germany for the past 30 years. He's well-settled there and lives with his family.

Whenever he speaks about Malayalis who have recently immigrated to Germany or to the West for that matter, I feel that he has a superiority complex. I agree that there are Malayalis who immigrate to Western countries without the required communication skills and do not have the necessary civic sense or the will to integrate, but there are many others with excellent communication skills and who genuinely want to integrate with the society they immigrate to.

So I wanted to know, why is it that some Malayalis try to gatekeep fellow Malayalis who want to immigrate to the West, despite the latter having all the necessary qualifications? I mean, isn't it a good thing if a person succeeds in their life?
