One hand, 10+ years of Dota. My setup/story for anyone with a similar limitation
Hey r/DotA2,
I play with one hand. I lost my left limbs in a motorcycle accident in 2012.
Gaming stayed - the Razer Naga turned out to be a lifesaver, 12 buttons under one thumb covers a lot of ground. FPS games are still pretty limited with one hand, but hopefully the future brings something awesome on that front.
Dota, though, works. And I go way back.... I was playing DotA on Warcraft 3 when Invoker was still Kael. Been on Dota 2 since 2014, dropped the game for about six years somewhere along the way, came back around two years ago and couldn't leave again. Now I'm taking it seriously:
- grinding ranked and doing it live so I can't quietly give up.
- Haven't even calibrated yet - that's happening on stream, wherever it lands.
How the setup actually works (this is the part that might be useful to someone else):
- Everything lives on the mouse side....a 12-button MMO mouse (Razer Naga) thumb grid does the heavy lifting. If you game one-handed, that purchase isn't even a question.
- Quickcast on most spells and items...but here's the real trick: I rebuild my config per hero, every single time. No universal layout survives contact with a different kit.
- Biggest single change: turning off auto-attack. With one hand you can't afford your hero deciding to commit for you. Oh, and lot of last hit practice....
- Hero pool: I've tried the entire roster and play most of it. The favourites: Invoker (yes, one-handed Invoker), Pudge, Techies, and carries like Juggernaut, PA, Drow, Sniper but also supports(not running away from that :D )
Happy to share the full config / a screenshot if anyone wants it. If you play with any kind of limitation and want to compare notes, my DMs are open...genuinely for any help I can provide.
Streaming the grind on Twitch (twitch.tv/solohanded) and on YouTube (@SoloHanded). Putting highlights on TikTok (@solohandedtv) and Instagram (@solohanded)...
Not asking anyone to sub....but if you want to watch a guy get better one hand at a time, that's where it is 😄
P.S.: Any advice are welcomed...
GLHF, see you in the trench.
