Bookshelf speakers for TV viewing

Hi all, I currently use a pair of ELAC Connex DB41 for primarily TV watching. I bought these as I wanted something compact and the HDMI connection.

However, I’m finding these a bit “warm(?)” as dialogue can be hard to hear and find that I need to turn up the volume quite a bit, but then louder scenes become too loud.

Does anyone else use their speakers primarily for TV watching rather than music?
If so, which speakers (active or passive) have you found works well for this purpose?

Budget would be £700 (for both amp+speakers or active alone). I am also open for used/second hand.
