I genuinely don’t get how parents think that of all places, Disneyworld is where you want to take your autistic kid. This isn’t me saying “they should never be allowed to go!!” or anything like that, but it’s a mix of so many factors that makes it seem like hell on earth for autistic people. I’ve seen so many parents say “I need lightning lane because my autistic kid can’t wait in lines” but they’re acting like that’ll be the only issue??

think about it like this - it’s (depending on when you go) pretty hot, often has high humidity so your arms and legs feel sticky, your clothes will stick to you/be uncomfortable because of how sweaty you are, there’s huge crowds, it’s loud, and there’s always a lot going on.

now yes, not everyone is the same and so some autistic people don’t have issues with things while others might, but isn’t this a recipe for overstimulation? there’s a way to get around some things, like headphones for the noise but some things you genuinely can’t avoid. i had trouble dealing with it and I’m not even autistic (if someone‘s sticky arm touched mine I’d actually freak out, I’m used to really low humidity). Especially when you’re a younger kid, its even harder to regulate yourself in such an overwhelming place

this absolutely isn’t saying autistic people shouldn’t go, and especially if your kid has a special interest/hyper fixation on something Disney related it makes complete sense. Idk I’m just so confused by parents saying they need lightning lane like the only issue will be waiting in line.

oh and no idea what to label this. Thanks for reading this yap, I’m genuinely not trying to be rude and I’m just confused :)

Why would you bring your autistic kid to Disneyworld?
