Undertrained half marathon
Hi all,
Wonders if anyone could offer me any useful advice. I’ve got a half marathon next Sunday (11 days away), this will be my second half. I did my first last October and was really pleased, I did it in 2:14 and had trained really well in the lead up, running 3 times a week.
This time around unfortunately due to work schedule including night shifts, lots of travel for weddings and the hot weather, my training has not been so good. I have run 16.3km as my longest session this time round but it was sloooow and a bit of a struggle. I’m concerned especially as the race I’m doing (the great north run) is pretty hilly and I stupidly avoid hills like the plague.
I am supposed to be on my taper at the moment, but realistically I’d only been running around once a week for the last couple of months. I have run one 9km and one 6km this week so far, with one more 6km planned. I have been trying to do more hills on these runs to help prepare. I have one further training run planned next week before the race.
TLDR - not trained enough for half marathon in 11 days, particularly hills. Anything I can do to help with remaining taper runs, or any other tips?
(Pls don’t just tell me I’m cooked - I’m nervous already!)
