Who actually knew what was coming?
Theory: This wasn't Stensen. I'm convinced at this point that it was all Anna, and nobody else knew.
*** SPOILERS ***
I keep seeing people just assume Stensen or the founders who dropped the bomb. I don't think so, and I'm past the theory stage on this one. I think there's so much evidence pointing to Anna and to none else, that to me this is the simplest and most logical interpretation.
!During her speech, Thurman mentions Stensen's other projects still in progress, getting people to space. If Stensen is the one who decided to end the world that day, why would he still be pouring resources into something he's about to destroy? That doesn't track. It only makes sense if Stensen didn't actually know what was coming.!<
!There's something else that doesn't track with the people in silo 1 on inauguration day. Most look unconcerned, even Stensen looks quite relaxed, playing the keyboard, greeting Peter Gabriel, etc. Only Anna has the knowing face look. Thurman complains about Anna not supporting the delivery, because she's distracted, she can't lose sight of Daniel. And when the senator complains, Anna replies "it won't happen again." It sounds perfectly natural in the situation, but it's also equally ominous.!<
!Also, Charlotte is nowhere to be seen that day. If she's the reason Daniel finally ends up in silo 1, her being completely absent from everything we see tracks. I'd imagine she's already inside silo 1 by that point, kidnapped or drugged, if the whole goal is protecting her. Can't confirm that, of course, it just seems like the logical way to get her there safely without risking blowing the whole thing.!<
!Worth remembering too, Anna works for Thurman, and Thurman presides over the so-called defence select committee. That's not nothing. That's Anna sitting right next to the kind of access and information you'd need to actually pull something like this off, and close enough to her mother to steer her without Thurman ever clocking it.!<
!Then there's that kitchen sink scene between Anna and Daniel (41:43 to 44:19), lasting over two and a half minutes, way above threshold for being significant if you ask me. Anna has cancer, she could be scared of leaving Charlotte alone, and she also says she loves her more than ever and that she's grateful for her. She also says Henry has been in her life since she was 12, he "sweeps up the emotional debris," so he's not just staff, he's trusted with the personal stuff. In a previous episode we also learned that Henry doesn't really have a job title, and that his job involves making sure Thurman and Anna are alright. From what we know about him, he really looks like a shady fixer.!<
!Next day, Henry goes out of his way, twice, to physically keep Daniel away from Helen and pointed toward silo 1. He lies about Charlotte being there. When they meet Victor, he also makes sure Victor delivers Daniel to silo 1. And when they arrive at 1, Stensen, Victor and Thurman all greet Daniel completely normally, nothing sinister, nobody acting off. Which fits, if none of them actually know what's coming and Daniel being there is Anna's doing, not theirs.!<
!Then Daniel gets the suspicious "Mom and Dad" text, supposedly from Charlotte, saying that "it's best to sit still and be patient" one. Henry is standing right behind Daniel, facing away and on his phone, the moment those texts land. Who's the most likely person to have access to Charlotte's phone? Anna. Right after, Anna immediately asks Daniel if he's okay, what's going on, which only really makes sense if she already knows something's happening to him because she's the one behind it. !<
!And after the bomb drops, Henry straight up says he was trying to save Daniel's life. And we know that his loyalty traces back to Anna here, not Stensen.!<
So this is where I land. Anna has motivation, she's dying, she loves Charlotte more than anything, and she doesn't want her left alone. She has knowledge, she knows what's coming when nobody else in that room seems to. She has access, through her position working under Thurman on the defence select committee. She also has access to Charlotte's phone. And she has means, Henry, someone loyal to her personally for over a decade, willing to physically manoeuvre Daniel and lie to his face without hesitation. She may have also been the one who planted in Thurman's head that she needed to speak to Daniel, which served as a pretext to bring Daniel over to 1.
Motivation, knowledge, access, means. Everything tracks back to Anna, I see no evidence at all of Stensen's involvement. Stensen didn't know. Thurman didn't know. The doctor didn't know. It was Anna's call, and Henry helped her make it happen.
