Look, I know ACOTAR is everyone's gateway drug back into reading, and that is completely fine. It certainly wasn't my first rodeo, because ToG was actually my introduction to SJM.

My real question is whether the people who have literally never read anything else, or at least never touched another Romantasy book, are actually running the majority of this fandom.

Because the way they treat the most basic, entry-level tropes like they just discovered a brand new scientific theorem is exhausting. ACOTAR is packed to the absolute brim with standard tropes, yet they will turn a textbook cliché into a five day fandom war instead of just saying it is a trope, babes, and moving on.

Take the whole everyone thinks Rhys is evil, but plot twist, he is actually a good guy dynamic, which is literally right out of the trope playbook.

And do not even get me started on the Feyre is an unreliable narrator circus. I am not about to write a thesis on this, but acting like first-person POV and third-person limited POV operate on entirely different dimensions of delusion is wild.

Both heavily tint how Feyre and Nesta process their trauma and the world around them, so is this literally the first time some of you have ever encountered a first-person perspective, or what? Make it make sense.

Also, I want to add that some people genuinely make ACOTAR out to be something it is not. We are reading Romantasy here, not a mystery, thriller, or epic fantasy or anything.

Do some people genuinely read nothing outside of ACOTAR?
