Is the economic growth, fueled by debt, sustainable in the long run?
Reuters: His administration has shifted the U.S. revenue structure, in part by raising tariffs and cutting corporate tax rates, further toward taxing workers and households and away from businesses and investors. It has made government revenue more dependent on a type of taxation that commands a shrinking portion of economic output amid global financial shifts and a rapidly retiring workforce. And it has tilted tax burdens increasingly toward low- and middle-income households over the highest earners, according to congressional budget officials.
My Opinion: Cutting taxes for the businesses, has shifted the tax burden more towards workers. And has led to increasing debt. While wasting money on foreign wars, and planning to increase defence spending, which all will contribute to rising government debt. And as investors become more reluctant to lend to the government, rising treasury yields, and rising debt service costs. The bill is going to come due some day.
Spending expanded with the pandemic, and the government has become addicted to spending, by not cutting it when the economy returned to growth.
