Why is making actual gaming friends on this sub so difficult?

Any Region

I'm pretty social and I already have a core group of friends. I just wanted to expand my circle and meet some new people. I play a pretty wide variety of games, both competitive and casual, and I work online, so I have a very flexible schedule. It's honestly pretty easy to find a time that works for me.

I've never really had issues making or maintaining friendships IRL or through games, but my experience on this sub specifically has been completely different.

I've made a few posts and DM'd quite a few people over the past two months, and I've had a lot of people (both F and M) show interest and add me. The pattern is almost always the same: we have a nice conversation, seem to get along, add each other on Discord, and then... nothing.

I ask if they want to play sometime, and suddenly they disappear, go invisible, start making excuses, or just never actually make an effort to play. Then you end up with someone sitting on your Discord for a week or two as a "ghost friend" before you eventually delete them.

And honestly, I don't get it.

Why add someone specifically to game with if you don't actually want to put in the effort or even have much interest in gaming together? I'm not expecting people to be available 24/7, and obviously everyone has their own life, but if you're interested enough to add someone and have a whole conversation with them, you'd think there'd at least be some effort to actually play together.

This seems to happen way more on this sub than anywhere else I've met people, and I'm genuinely curious why.
