Confused for mac lipsticks at nykaa what to do?

I am planning to buy mac lipsticks(warm teddy and velvet teddy might go for whirl as well if not velvet teddy)as a surprise birthday gift for my friend ,when I go to nykaa and use the try on the shades are very dark as compared to when I see them at reddit or in reviews. They are quite expensive but I want to gift some luxe product how can I assure myself the shade I'm getting (I am a man btw so I'm quite hesitant going to makeup store and swatch lipsticks and I'm quite fair and she has brown indian skin but not too dark)

Also suggest me some shades whirl is one I've thought one more if you guys can recommend
