New severe random pain & 15-day bleeding 9 months post-laparoscopy&Mirena insertion. Just removed it. Has anyone experienced this?
Hello😊 I’m looking for people who have been diagnosed with endometriosis and may have accompanying illnesses that sound like what I’ve experienced. And those who have found what works.
After 12 years of debilitating periods, ovulation pain and a constant ache on my left side (that was mostly outside my period unless triggered) I was diagnosed in December 2025. Mild endometriosis lesions were removed around the left side to the back of my uterus. The Mirena was placed to treat my endometriosis, alongside this I continued taking the Yasmin combined pill for 3 months to help me breeze through Mirena related symptoms.
These were the best 3 painfree months of my life, then I stopped the pill and finished up my first period with the Mirena.
In the past 6 months my period pain is manageable, I still needed Ponstan, Paracetamol and a Tens machine to get me though at least a full day and a half but I felt better despite my period going from 7 days to 15 days. I could mostly function for 13/15 days.
I still experience severe ovulation pain that nothing helps.
I experience a new pain outside my period, starting 2 days after and it feels like waves of level 4-9 sharp pain that comes on randomly before ovulation and after - easing up 3 days before my period. Accompanying the pain is nausea, shooting pains, flood of discharge and exhaustion. Sometimes I can trace the pain to fried food/sugar/ stress and most times I have no idea what is causing it. The pain is similar to an ovulation pain, I’ve felt it on my left side on my right and in the middle.
Ultrasounds show the Mirena to be in place and cyst that doesn’t warrant concern. Blood tests shows increased inflammation.
I tried a progesterone only pill Cerravette which made the pain worse. Tried Yasmin again but had to stop after a few days because it affected my moods.
My doctor says it can’t be endometriosis since my endometriosis was removed 9 months ago, this this pain is outside of the Mirena since it is in the correct position and that since my pain is outside their scope they can’t help me anymore.
Despite this, I decided to remove the Mirena and see if that eases up this new pain. In the mean time I’m seeing a physiotherapist and a dietician and plan to go the holistic route of acupuncture. Anything to ease up the pain and calm the nervous system.
I’ll hopefully soon have a pelvic MRI and see a pain specialist to investigate this new mystery pain.
Has anyone with endometriosis experienced the same or similar? Either due to the Mirena or a different condition?
What has helped you with addressing the root cause? ie systemic inflammation/metabolic health/the gut
