Building a B2B competitor & account intelligence tool, what’s the best channel for the first 10 paying customers?
I’m a developer with a background in data scrapers and outbound pipelines. I’ve noticed a consistent gap in how early/growth-stage B2B SaaS teams handle account intelligence.
Most outbound timing is broken. Cold emails get ignored because there’s no immediate context. But when a prospect or competitor hits a specific buying trigger, raising prices, cutting a free tier, negative review spikes, or hiring for a specific tech stack, conversion rates jump significantly.
Enterprise intelligence tools cost $15k+/year and are way too bloated for lean teams. Most founders and sales reps I talk to are manually checking 15 different browser tabs, Google Alerts, and spreadsheets every Monday morning to track this stuff.
I built a lightweight engine that tracks competitor pricing changes, negative review spikes, and hiring signals in real-time, piping the alerts straight into a weekly digest or Slack.
Where I’m stuck (The First 10 Clients):
Acquisition Channel: Should I use the tool itself to find buying triggers and do hyper-personalized cold email, or is LinkedIn outbound / Founder-led sales better for validating with the first 10 customers?
Target Persona: Who feels this pain more acutely: Solo SaaS founders trying to handle outbound themselves, or B2B sales/agency leaders who need real-time competitive ammo?
Pricing Model: Thinking of keeping it simple with a $199/mo lightweight tier vs usage-based per competitor tracked.
If you’ve sold B2B intelligence, sales tooling, or data products to businesses, how did you land your first handful of beta/paying users?
Would appreciate any feedback on positioning!
