Pakistan Loses Hockey World Cup Record After 32 Years
This Sunday, Germany won the 2026 Hockey World Cup. It was their 4th title. They have equalled the record set by Pakistan in 1994 they won their last world cup title.
After 32 years of decline, Pakistan has only now lost the distinction of being the country with the most Hockey World Cup wins.
That was the level of domination that the Pakistani Hockey team demonstrated on the world stage.
However, sadly, like all good things in Pakistan, the decay and rot of the system has rendered it hollow from the inside.
Pakistan finished 11th in the Hockey World Cup this year; their best performance since 2010. In fact, it was their first win since 2010.
That's right. We hadn't won a single World Cup game since 2010. Pathetic.
Pakistan won't regain the Hockey crown anytime soon. They won't magically recover to become the world's best Hockey team in 2030 and win a fifth title.
I can only hope they regain some semblance of their former glory by adapting and starting the long journey to the top.
It's not impossible, but it requires effort and sincerity and government support. That's a combination we rarely ever have.
