AI being banned for use on screening questions

Staffing / Recrutement

Recently I had saved a job posting to apply to later and in the same week the posting was updated due to the original not including the following statement in the about the position section see as follows.

"Any use of generative artificial intelligence in the completion of your application is considered a violation of the assessment process. Should the selection committee suspect the use of generative artificial intelligence, your candidacy may be subject to immediate disqualification."

I somewhat think its a bit ridiculous to just outright ban it's use for applying to public service jobs. Like I understand they don't want people just having AI write everything for you and copy and paste it but this tool is not going away anytime soon and even with putting that in the add there will be people who use it and don't get caught with a significant advantage over the people who spend the hours on end writing out 10 long answer questions in the screening section. Its one thing if it was write us a cover letter and CV without AI but when the system requests multiple long answer screening questions then outright bans the use of AI seems a bit ridiculous. The hiring system is already frustrating as it is with how much time it requires for a job application you will either never hear back from or hear back in 2-3 years from now. At the end of the day AI isn't going away and just banning it outright seems ridiculous when even if you used it to get past the first screen, you aren't guaranteed to get past later screens like vidcruiter or an interview with a hiring manager. And if you were to then you probably at that point are qualified anyway. Peoples time is valuable and AI gives us back some of that time that the hiring process has taken from us over the years of applying constantly and having to spend hours on end writing out long form questions to then hear back 10% of the time.
