Need advice on Qatar job/visa process — is this legitimate?
Hi everyone, I’m from Nigeria and I need some honest advice from people familiar with Qatar employment and visa processes.
Earlier this year, I paid a recruiter ₦1,000,000 to process a job opportunity in Qatar. I was told the job was with a beverage company and that the employer would be recruiting workers from Nigeria. I was also told that the process would be completed and I would travel around September 2026.
After I made the payment, the recruiter became completely unresponsive for a long period. He finally contacted me on August 28 and explained that he had lost his phone at a metro station and subsequently lost access to his bank account.
He is now asking me to pay an additional ₦500,000 to “facilitate the visa processing.” He said that if I don't make the payment immediately, it could affect the arrangement, I may not travel in September, and I could potentially lose the job offer.
I’m honestly confused at this point.
My questions are:
-
Is it normal for a Qatar employer/recruitment process to require another payment like this at this stage?
-
What documents should I have received by now if the job and visa process are genuine?
-
Can I independently verify a Qatar work visa/application using a visa or application number?
-
Should I pay the additional ₦500k, or should I demand documentation and verification first?
-
Is there anything specific I should ask the recruiter for to confirm that the job offer actually exists?
I’m not trying to accuse the recruiter of fraud without evidence. I just want to make sure I don't lose another ₦500k if something isn't right.
Any advice from Qatar residents, Nigerians who have successfully relocated to Qatar for work, recruiters, or anyone familiar with the process would be greatly appreciated.
