researching for your travel clients can go on forever

One reason travel advisors work long hours is that research has no natural stopping point.

There is always another hotel to compare., another itinerary variation... one last YouTube review. ooh! Another supplier promotion. Another restaurant, excursion, cabin category, or routing option to consider.

The goal is not to give clients every possible option. The goal is to give them the best options for their priorities.

Before you begin research, decide:

  • What is the client’s main goal?
  • What is their budget range? Even if you don't ask for budget, you need to be able to tell them what their dream trip budget should be to hit all their wants
  • What are their non-negotiables?
  • How many options will you present? my personal preference is 3. Because it's the magic number
  • How much time will you allow for the first round of research? give yourself deadlines. helps you not get into the overthinking trap.

For example:

That is far more manageable than “I need to find the perfect resort.”

A defined process helps you protect your time and makes decisions easier for the client, too.

How many options do you usually send clients in a first proposal?
