Question about getting a new logic board.

I want to clarify before moving on, I am not trying to bypass the Activation lock, i'm simply trying to not waste money.

Yesterday I was at Savers, a thrift store, and they had a "for parts" 2023 M2 mac book air for $7, which feels like a wild price. I get it home charge it, and nothing happens. I pop it open and discover that the logic board has been removed, and beyond that everything seems to be there.

So my question is this, if I there was an activation lock in place and I were to get a new logic board would everything except the finger print scanner be good to go, or is everything locked down? I did try searching via google and answers seems to be all over the place, even the AI response couldn't make up its mind. TBC I dont mind losing the $7 dollars, I just thought it might be a nifty project.

And yes I realize someone is probably going to say "it was probably stolen", and it was either that, or someone died. Savers is donation based, so you can just drop off whatever with the exception of most infant items. So when I found the mac book, there was a much older model, like pre-2009 all white model, several tablets, a couple of which were only a couple years old, and an HP netbook. And if you have never been thrifting, understand that items like that don't stay on the floor long, so for that many to be there at once means they had to have been donated all the same time, most likely that morning. So given that info, im inclined to lean towards death as opposed to theft.
