What makes Amex Gold work for you?

I just got a pretty good SUB for the gold (100k) and I’m considering going for it, but I’m not sure it fits my lifestyle. I live in New York and most of my spend is on groceries and dining, and I can use the credits pretty easily, but I want to hear from current/previous gold card holders on what they like and dislike about the card and what made it work in your portfolio.
