Proposals for changes to the outdated content of summoning
Removing Spirit Points and reworking the icon's function
The spirit point must be removed. The summon icon remains, but with new functions:
- The cyan bar now only represents the available Special Attack points for the scrolls.
- If there are enough points to activate a scroll, the icon takes on a brighter color. Otherwise, the icon will darken.
- If the special move has a cooldown, or an automatic cast time rate is defined, a cooldown is displayed on the icon (similar to an ability in CD).
- You can still change the default function of the left-click in the icon ("Renew familiar", "Take BoB", "Attack", "Cast special move", "Follower details"...)
In this way, the information about whether or not a special move is available, becomes simple and intuitive without cluttering the screen too much
Pig tier system
The Spirit Pig features a tier system where familiars improve as you level up. The intention is to expand this mechanic to other familiars while updating their effects. For the tier system to work, the following conditions must first be met:
- The familiar's function needs to have synergy with its special move. That is, a skiller familiar would not have a combat special move. There also wouldn't be situations like the Wolpertinger, which has various disjointed buffs that are irrelevant to its level.
- There are familiars who are direct updates of others. Thus, to avoid redundancy when increasing the tier of lower-level summons, familiars that previously performed the same function will now operate differently within their niche.
The tier system
- For every 10 summoning levels, the familiar's tier increases by one.
- The summoned familiar starts at a minimum tier based on the Summoning requirement to summon it.
- As the tier increases, the duration, combat level, and values related to the summon's effects or buffs also increase.
Using the hunter level boost from Hunter's familiars as an example:
| Hunter familiar | level req | Boost at level 50-59 | Boost at level 60-69 | Boost at level 70-79 | Boost at level 80-89 | Boost at level 90-99 | Boost at level +100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spirit graahk | 57 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 |
| Spirit kyatt | 57 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 |
| Spirit larupia | 57 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 |
| Arctic bear | 71 | // | // | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 |
If summoned at the same level, they will have the same tier, and therefore, their buffs and duration are equivalent. To avoid redundancy, each one will have their own Hunter-related niche. Example:
| Summon | Passive | extra ability | Special move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arctic bear | Invisible Hunter levels boost . Counts as 2 pieces of Polar camo gear | Teleport to Trollweiss Hunter Area. | Apex predator (Artic)¹ |
| Spirit larupia | Invisible Hunter levels boost . Counts as 2 pieces of Jungle camo gear | Teleport to Feldip Hunter area | apex predator (Jungle)² |
| Spirit kyatt | Invisible Hunter levels boost . Counts as 2 pieces of Woodland camo gear | Teleport to Piscatoris Hunter area | apex predator (woodland)³ |
| Spirit graahk | Invisible Hunter levels boost . Counts as 2 pieces of Desert camo gear | Teleport to desert hunter areas | Apex predator (desert) ⁴ |
- Apex predator (Artic): It will hunt an animal from the area, acting as a Protean trap. Capture rate 50% faster in Trollweiss Hunter Area.
- apex predator (Jungle): It will hunt an animal from the area, acting as a Protean trap. Capture rate 50% faster in Feldip Hunter area
- apex predator (woodland): It will hunt an animal from the area, acting as a Protean trap. Capture rate 50% faster in Piscatoris Hunter area
- apex predator (desert): It will hunt an animal from the area, acting as a Protean trap. Capture rate 50% faster in desert
So, despite sharing the same function, each one will be the best choice for its respective area. This would also prevent breaking immersion—such as taking a Polar Bear to hunt in the desert just because it offers a stronger buff.
More examples
Fishing
Similar to Hunter, fishing familiars will increase their buff with the tier and perform better in their own fishing expertise:
| Familiar | Passive | extra ability |
|---|---|---|
| Granite crab | Invisible Fishing levels boost, Acts as a fishing rod | Chance to collect an extra fish (obtained by fishing rod) when fishing. You receive the xp |
| Ibis | Invisible Fishing levels boost, Acts as a harpoon | Chance to collect an extra fish (obtained by harpoon ) when fishing. You receive the xp |
| Granite lobster | Invisible Fishing levels boost, Acts as a fishing net | Chance to collect an extra fish (obtained by fishing net) when fishing. You receive the xp |
The three of them share the same type of special move:
- Special move (Shoal Siege): increases the duration of the fish shoal /prevents it from moving.
Runecraft
By having the Abyssal Parasite store more essence as its tier increases, there is more freedom to work on other areas of Runecraft training. See:
| Familiar | Passive | extra ability | Special move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abyssal parasite | Stores Essence (increase capacity with the tier) | Teleport to a Rune Essence mine | Abyssal Storage¹ |
| Abyssal lurker | Increases your chance of siphoning successfully within the Runespan | Teleport to an active runesphere while in Runespan | Abysaal Syphon² |
| Abyssal titan | Stores a large amount of Essence (increase capacity with tier) | Teleport to the abyss (to the center if Nexus Mod is enabled) | Abyssal Constitution³ |
Special Moves:
- Abyssal Storage: Sends all essences in your possession to the bank.
- Abysaal Syphon: Chip off a creature from the Renespan, generating rune essences and a node of the same element as the creature.
- Abyssal Constitution: Temporary buff. Chance to save essence when crafting runes or imbuing a staff. The chance doubles when activating the special move from within the Abyss.
Thus, the first Runecrafting familiar (Abyssal Parasite) will focus on mining/collect essence and taking it to the bank or altar (at low-mid game).
As a late-game summon—a stage where the player is generally less dependent on mining essence to acquire it—the Abyssal Titan will focus on the efficiency of transporting essence to the altar.
To ensure the Abyssal Lurker does not become redundant, it will focus on increasing efficiency when training in Runespan.
Random combat ones
Some random familiars reworked to function with specific combat niches.
| Familiar | Passive | extra ability | Special move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spirit scorpion | Increases the chance of weapon poison being applied to the player's target | Option to apply Weapon poison to your weapon | Venom Shot¹ |
| Spirit jelly | The attacks reduce the target's armor | Dissolve² | |
| Vampyre bat | Heals the player for % of familiar damage | Vampyre Touch³ | |
| bloated leech | Pay a % of hp. Restores reduced stats and cures poison | Blood Drain⁴ |
Special moves:
- Venom Shot 100% chance your weapon will inflict poison on your next attack. Poison damage increases with tier.
- Dissolve Multiple successive attacks
- Vampyre Touch The player receives a temporary buff similar to Vampyrism that stacks with it.
- Blood Drain It works like Freedom, but costs HP.
Evolution
Some categories of summoned familiars, such as minotaurs, would undergo a visual change when leveling the tier. For example, a Bronze Minotaur becomes an Iron Minotaur
Still on the subject of minotaurs: if we expand this one to serve as the primary melee summon, we can create three other categories (for magic, range, and necromancy). Continuing with the theme of the Stronghold of Security dungeon, these three categories can be represented by:
- Catablepon: The magical creature from dungeon based on the Catoblepas (a buffalo-like creature with a fatal breath). Its base components come from Runecrafting, and its evolution is based on the armor tier progression from the Elemental Workshop quests series.
- Wood crawler: Based on the Flesh Crawler (and the Bulbous Crawler). They are wood-like insects that attack with range. The base component for the pouch comes from fletching. Their evolution is based on the wood tier.
- Ankou: Unlike the dungeon version, it attacks with Necro. The base component of the pouch is obtained through rituals. In folklore, Ankou is usually depicted with a scythe. So the evolution is based on the metal of the scythe.
The following table shows a sample of the evolution up to tier 50.
| Tier | Melee | Magic | Range | Necro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-9 | Bronze minotaur | Elemental Catablepon | Evergreen crawlers | Bronze scythe Ankou |
| 10-19 | Iron minotaur | Mind Catablepon | Oak crawlers | Iron sickle Ankou |
| 20-29 | Steel minotaur | Earth Catablepon | Willow crawlers | Steel scythe Ankou |
| 30-39 | Mithril minotaur | Body Catablepon | Teak crawlers | Mithril sickle Ankou |
| 40-49 | Adamant minotaur | Cosmic Catablepon | Maple crawlers | Adamant scythe Ankou |
| 50-59 | Rune minotaur | Chaos Catablepon | Arcadia crawlers | Rune scythe Ankou |
What would be the purpose of these familiars?
They would be available right from the early levels, serving as an inexpensive option that adapts to the player's training progression all the way to the late game. Instead of bosses, they would be suitable for combat training and Slayer tasks.
| Familiar | Passive | Special move |
|---|---|---|
| Minotaur | Increase melee damage and xp | AoE damage and generates Bloodlust |
| Catablepon | Icrease magic damage and xp | AoE damage and debuff |
| crawlers | Increase range damage and xp | AoE damage and heal the player |
| Ankou | Increase necro damage and xp | AoE damage and generates souls stack |
